Thame Museum, Oxford, housed in the former Magistrate's Court, is packed with displays reflecting life in and around Thame in the past 5000 years.

The Elizabethan Wall Paintings room is a must-see attraction. The Wall Paintings, dating from the time of Queen Elizabeth I, were found in a house in Thame in 1965 and installed in a unique display in the Museum in 2006.

With the help of Heritage Lottery Funding, the museum has created a fascinating interactive display to give the visitor an unusually detailed view of the life of the Elizabethan merchant who probably owned it.

Other interesting things to see include Neolithic finds from a recent dig in Thame, as well as the contents of a secret cupboard, which when unearthed in the 1970s revealed a time capsule of over 490 objects, including letters, receipts and newspapers, some dating back to the late Victorian era.

Visit our new permanent display gallery dedicated to Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees. Robin lived in Thame from 1985 until his death 2012 and is buried in St. Mary's Church cemetery opposite his home, the Prebendal. The gallery is filled with artefacts, photographs and other memorabilia all from Dwina, his widow's, personal archive. Most of the items have never before been on display. Entrance to the Gallery is free.

The Museum also boasts a large photographic collection producing a rich and historic archive of life in the town, both family and business. The photographs range from Victorian glass slides to more recent family snaps. Copies are available to purchase.

Children can take part in a fun trail round the museum or dress up in historic costumes. There is something for all the family.

Currently the Museum is open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays 10am to 4pm. Sundays 10am to 1pm.
